Fallen Fyrdman

(The original is called Bold Finian Men, sung by Omnia. These are my amended lyrics. Also normally sung with a non wordy bit in between verses)

T'was down by the glen side I met and old woman,
Plucking young nettles she ne'er saw me coming,
I listened a while to the song she was humming,
Glory owed, glory owed to the fallen Fyrdmen.

S'been many a long year since I saw their helms gleamin',
Shield in the wall their war cry a'screamin',
But I'll see them again, threw all my sad dreaming,
Glory owed, glory owed to the fallen Fyrdmen.

To some I was friend and to some I'm a stranger,
But I'll ne'er let it be said their deaths were a failure,
For they fought on with honour and they never feared danger,
Glory owed, glory owed to the fallen Fyrdmen.

I passed on my way, praise the spirits I met her,
In life long or short I'll never forget her,
For we may have brave men but we'll never have better,
Glory owed, glory owed to the fallen Fyrdmen.
